What better way to kick off the start of summer than with a wine tasting devoted to a selection of chilled wines perfectly suited for entertaining? For a hot and humid season ahead, lighter wines with bright acidity are what sommelier Evan Keaschuk recommends for dinner parties and warm nights on the back deck or balcony.
All wines were selected from Vintages at the LCBO, and at a reasonable price point of under $25 for each bottle, one really can’t go wrong.
Evan, sommelier with Gezellig restaurant in Westboro, joined us at The Corners on Main presentation centre alongside Derick Cotnam of My Catering Group for the evening’s event. Derick consulted with Evan to prepare a delicious, inventive menu of pairings to compliment each wine. A sparkling Crémant de Bourgogne from Bailly Lapierre kicked things off, followed by one of Canada’s top organic Rieslings from Tawse Winery, a Chenin Blanc from Ken Forrester (the perfect alternative to a Chardonnay), a juicy Gamay Noir from 13th Street, and lastly, an elegant Late Harvest Riesling from Cave Spring- less sweet than an Icewine, but just as delicious!
